「作為一隊全本地樂手組成的專業樂團,更能彰顯本港新世代音樂家的古典音樂演奏水平,展示香港的文化實力。」(“As a professional ensemble composed entirely of local musicians, [NHKP BCO] demonstrates the classical performance calibre of Hong Kong’s new generation of musicians and showcases the city’s cultural strength.”)

Established in 2022, the NHKP Baroque Chamber Orchestra has rapidly established itself as a premier professional chamber ensemble in Hong Kong, distinguished by the exceptional calibre of its musicians and the high standard of its music-making. Comprising accomplished professional Hong Kong musicians, the ensemble brings together the artistic strengths of the city with an international outlook, showcasing Hong Kong’s cultural vitality through music.

At the heart of the orchestra’s artistic philosophy is a belief in the enduring power of great music to connect people across generations. Through compelling performances and imaginative programming, the ensemble seeks to bring the richness of the Baroque tradition to contemporary audiences, inspiring greater appreciation for the arts and ensuring that this musical heritage continues to resonate with future generations. The orchestra’s commitment to engaging contemporary audiences has been reflected in its growing public reach, with more than 4,500 audience members attending its five-concert 2026 summer season.

Since its founding, the orchestra has developed a significant presence in Hong Kong and increasingly on the international stage. Its engagements include performances at the French May Arts Festival and the Emilia Romagna Concerti Ravenna Music Festival in Italy, as well as appearances at major cultural and commemorative events, including the 60th Anniversary of Dongjiang Water Supply to Hong Kong. In July 2024, under the auspices of Emilia Romagna Concerti, the orchestra undertook its inaugural international tour, presenting four concerts at historic venues including the Abbazia di Casola Valsenio and the UNESCO-listed Basilica di Sant’Apollinare Nuovo in Ravenna. The ensemble returned to Italy in 2025 for further performances as part of the Emilia Romagna Concerti series.

A defining feature of the NHKP Baroque Chamber Orchestra is its internationally oriented programming and collaborative spirit. Featured artists have included internationally acclaimed violinists Emmanuel Coppey, Domenico Nordio, Alexandre Pascal, Riccardo Zamuner, Léo Place-Desprez, Leung Kin Fung, Wong Sze Hang, Yipwai Chow, and Shiho Takashima; distinguished violists Yu Sun and Joseph Kam; cellist Laurent Perrin; guitarist Diego Campagna; and pianist Colleen Lee and Rachel Cheung. The orchestra has also collaborated with distinguished composers, including Dr. Mui Kwong Chiu, Director of the Hong Kong Composers’ Guild, and internationally renowned composer Prof. Chen Yi. Through these collaborations, the orchestra brings together artistic excellence, international exchange, and diverse musical perspectives.

The orchestra is equally committed to expanding the possibilities of its artistic programming. In 2024, it presented the world premiere of Dr. Mui Kwong Chiu’s Beautiful Hong Kong, a commissioned multimedia work portraying diverse facets of the city through live instrumentation, poetry, visual imagery, and sound effects. Presented to a sold-out audience at the Hong Kong City Hall Concert Hall, the project exemplified the ensemble’s commitment to connecting the Baroque tradition with contemporary Hong Kong creativity.

At the heart of the NHKP Baroque Chamber Orchestra is a commitment to artistic excellence, meaningful audience engagement, and the continued vitality of the arts in Hong Kong. By bringing the richness of Baroque music to contemporary audiences, providing a professional platform for Hong Kong musicians, and connecting local artistry with leading international performers and creators, the ensemble seeks not only to celebrate the musical heritage of the past, but to ensure that its value continues to be discovered and appreciated by generations to come.
